Evaluating Ebola vaccine trials: insights from simulation.

The relative merits of trial designs are context-specifi c, and the benefi ts conventionally associated with certain designs might be achieved by alternative designs, when carefully tailored to local situations. We believe that proposed designs should be rigorously analysed and compared (eg, via simulation) as a matter of course in trial planning, to ensure that trials are valid, effi ciently powered, and ethically justifi ed within the setting in which the trial will be done.
